Applying for The Indonesia Tourist Visa
Applying for a tourist visa for Indonesia has two ways:
- Visa on Arrival
- Visa from Embassy or Consulate of Indonesia
Indonesia Visa Waiver Program
Indonesia Visa Waiver Program is a Free Visa that allows citizens of free visa allowed countries to enter Indonesia without any visa. It is provided for a maximum of 30 days without any terms of extension. This means any traveler in Visa Exemption is allowed only for 30 days in Indonesia. The Following 169 Countries are eligible to enter Indonesia on the Indonesia Visa Waiver Program:

Indonesia Visa on Arrival
Indonesia Visa On arrival is a visa service that allows the On-Arrival Visa Eligible Countries' Citizens to enter Indonesia as a tourist without Pre- Visa. At the time of Immigration Check-in, Travelers can get the 30 Days on arrival Visa. Unlike Visa Exemption or Visa Waiver program, Visa On arrival has terms of Visa Extension for up to 30 Days.
Indonesia Visa Waiver v/s Visa On Arrival
Well, the Visa On Arrival Eligible travelers can also get the Visa Exemption. But little effort to obtain a Visa On Arrival(VOA) is better if you have a plan for a long vacation or uncertain trips. Visa-Free gives only 30 days without extension terms while VOA gives the travelers the chance of Visa Extension. If you have a short vacation and are sure of no longer staying more than 30 days in Indonesia, Visa Waiver Program is better but unsure means better to obtain VOA.
Processing Indonesia Visa on Arrival
Travels eligible to obtain the Indonesia VOA have to approach the VOA Counter(s) at Airports and have to present the following documents:
- Passport with more than 6 months of validity
- Onward and Return Flight Ticket
- Visa Application Fee( approx. US$ 35 or other equivalent currencies applicable/acceptable in Indonesia)
Extending Indonesia Tourist Visa
Indonesia Visa on Arrival
Any eligible traveler who has obtained a Visa On arrival can extend the visa for a maximum of 30 Days. To extend the VOA, the tourist/ travelers must have to visit and apply for an extension before 7 days of primary visa Duration. For Extension, the charge of US$ 35 is applicable.
Indonesia Tourist Visa ( Citizens not eligible to VOA)
As with the VOA, Indonesia Tourist Visa also has terms of 30 days extension. Any travelers who wish to extend the visa have to apply within 7 days before the expiry of the Visa Period from the Immigration department. The applicable charge is the same as the Indonesia Tourist Visa Applicable fees i.e. approx. UD$ 50.
Indonesia Visa Waiver Program
Any travelers in Indonesia with a Free Visa or Visa Exemption program are not allowed to extend the Visa. The Indonesia Visa Waiver Program is non-extendable and such Visa Holders must have to return from Indonesia within 30 days. If any individuals in Indonesia under Indonesia Visa Waiver Program stay there for more than 30 days, the person will be charged US$70 per day and may get other punishment as per the nature of the Guilty.
Indonesia Tourist Visa Fees
The applicable Indonesia Tourist Visa Fee is as follows:
- For a Single-entry Tourist Visa: USD 50
- For an Indonesia Visa on Arrival: USD 35
Note: The visa fees are subject to change as per the rules and directives of the Immigration Department of Indonesia.
A new notice from the office of the President of Indonesia has allowed the citizens of 169 countries in the Visa Waiver Program. The fee is not applicable but the visa will be for 30 days and not extendable.
Requirements to apply for Indonesia Tourist Visa
To apply for an Indonesia Tourist Visa, individuals have to submit the numbers of Documents. They are as follows:
- Visa Application form
- Photocopy of Passport along with Original Passport for verification
- Copy of valid Residence/Visa for individual living in the country and not the citizen of the respective country
- Recent Passport size Photo with following properties:
- 3cmx4cm or 4cmx6cm in white background
- The fully visible face staring straight ahead
- No headgears (unless religious requirements)
- A copy of round trip tickets
- Proof of sufficient financial status/ Bank Statements
- Voucher of Indonesia Visa Fee Paid
- Proof of having paid the Indonesia visa fee.
Remember, Indonesia Tourist Visas for citizens of different countries are different. Some may require government authorization and Visa Grant duration also differ by the country. In Normal Cases, Visa will be granted within 3-5 Working Days. if you are applying through a mailing address, it may take a few more working days due to the mailing duration.
Applying by Mail
A prepaid and self-addressed return stamped envelope is required. The Embassy or Consulate will use the envelope to mail the passport with Visa grant/ rejection.
